Private Barn Visit

If you’d like to meet some friendly farm animals…have questions about raising your own…or just want to cross “visit an authentic working farm” off your bucket list, I invite you to schedule a visit to our barn.

We raise farm animals for our enjoyment, and to make our milk-based and fiber products, but never for consumption. They’re our passion, our fun and are part of our family. You can learn more about a Barn Visit below.

What’s a Barn Visit like?

As your guide, I’ll invite you inside our historic barn, introduce you to our 2 guard llamas, 5 Nigerian Dwarf goats, 2 Angora goats, 3 Mini-Nubian goats, 12 Finnsheep, 3 alpacas, 21 chickens and 2 angora rabbits, and teach you about their personalities and the best ways to interact with them.  (You’re welcome to meet our pups, Maeve and Molly at the end of your visit if you wish!)

Although llamas and alpacas have large personal space boundaries, ours may decide to greet you in their unique and gentle way… by touching their nose to yours. The sheep, goats, and rabbits will most likely be the ones to welcome a friendly pat.

Barn animals have always been part of my life. I grew up with horses, managed a large resort farm, raised sheep for 35+ years, goats for 24, llamas and alpacas since 2006 and have been a featured speaker at the Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival for the past six years.

I’ve also have raised cashmere goats, ducks, miniature donkeys, and a few pigs and Scottish Highland cattle, and would be happy to answer questions about raising those animals as well.

Besides introducing you to our animals, I’ll share with you some fun facts and information about daily animal care, training, breeding, delivering, milking, shearing, and fiber processing. I can also recommend reputable breeders and fiber mills if you’re interested in starting your own small farm.

Things to know…

• There is no way of completely avoiding dirt, odors, insects or manure during your visit. Please plan your clothing accordingly.
• We offer wet wipes and hand sanitizer, but there is no running water or restroom in the barn.
• Please do not expect to feed the animals. We carefully monitor their nutritional needs, and don’t “hand-feed” so they’ll remain polite around people.
• Plan to speak in a calm voice and move slowly around the animals. Children must stay with an adult during the visit.
• Our barn has many uneven surfaces and cannot accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, crutches or walkers.
• Although we love dogs, our farm animals view dogs as predators. Please leave all dogs at home.
• A visit to our Farm Shop will be available during your farm visit.
